The PressBox Hall of Fame… Class of 2016

Hall of Fame logo
The third class of The PressBox Hall of Fame was inducted on June 15, 2016! This was the year we needed to right some wrongs for overlooking Hall of Famers from our earlier classes. In addition, as is the case with so many Halls of Fame, this year we are instituting a “Media Wing” to The PressBox Hall of Fame to recognize the hundreds of outstanding Sportscasters and Sportswriters who have joined us throughout our 12 years and its only fitting that we name this wing in honor of our own Hall of Fame Co-Host, who is the first and most renowned radio & television sportscaster from the Pee Dee, Bob Schuster! Since we are the “Gold Standard of SportsTalk in the Carolinas,” and as I’ve said many times on the show, we like talking broadcasting as much as sports, so it was only a natural that we recognize those who have made it that much more enjoyable for us! We hope its been equally as enjoyable for you…

The “Bob Schuster Media Wing” of Hall of Fame Guests

We are going to start our Media Wing by inducting two broadcast legends posthumously, who joined us in our early years… But there can only be one “Dean” of this wing… So we start with:

Jim Phillips (2)The “Voice of the Clemson Tigers” Jim Phillips

and we add,

ESPN SportsCenter Anchor Stuart Scott

Plus, two sportscasters were inducted in our first Guest Hall of Fame, so Phil Kornblut and Pete Yanity will automatically transition to this wing as well, so for our first class of The PressBox Media Guest Hall of Fame, we present…

Co-Host of the Original “PressBox with Brett & The Bad Boy” and Wilmington Star-News Online ACC Insider Brett Friedlander, Popular Carolinas SportsTalk Host & ACC Sports Journal Columnist Dave Glenn, Host of ESPN’s PTI Tony Kornheiser, Fox College Play-by-play Announcer Tim Brando, “Voice of the Duke Blue Devils” Bob Harris, “Voice of the Florida State Seminoles” Gene Deckerhoff, “Voice of the NC State Wolfpack” Gary Hahn, “Voice of the Phoenix Suns” Al McCoy, Host of Sirius/XM’s College Sports Today Mark Packer, Nationally Syndicated Sports Columnist Al Featherston, ESPN Sports Reporter Bob Ryan, and last but certainly not least… one of the most fun interviews ever, “The Voice of College Basketball” Dick Vitale… bay-bee!!
